Importance of the Workshop:

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive and relatively inexpensive method for assessing neurophysiological function. EEG measures the electrical activity of large, synchronously firing populations of neurons in the brain at the scalp level. The major advantage of EEG compared to other methods is the excellent temporal resolution, allowing for investigation of neural activity at the level of milliseconds, which best approximates the timing of neural events.

Understanding the basic neural processes that underlie complex higher-order cognitive operations and functional domains is a fundamental goal of cognitive neuroscience. Event-related potentials (ERPs) have been used for decades to study perception, cognition, emotion, neurological and psychiatric disorders. ERPs consist of multiple components that reflect specific neurocognitive processes.

The proposed workshop will demonstrate the design of EEG-ERP studies, recording and basic analysis of data, as well the interpretation of EEG results. This workshop will explore the benefits of using EEG-ERP to various cognitive functions.

Workshop Details:

The workshop aims to demonstrate and give hands-on interactive experience on EEG acquisition, pre-processing and analysis with the aim of increasing the awareness about the use of ERP as a tool to assess brain functions in health and disease.
